When Jesus asks his disciples who the crowds said he was, it is because of this scene of great idolatry. For the Jews had no means of standing up to the Roman soldiers. Whoever dared to do this, in the case of the Zealot Jews, through guerrilla attacks, ended up arrested and killed. Israel was under the yoke of the Romans. Jesus Christ, as the Son of God, had a deep knowledge of this and knew that the Jews intended to proclaim him King to get out of the hell in which they lived without being able to outline any reaction to change this situation. However, with the passage of time, disappointment came, because the expected Messiah would not use weapons, but love as a means of defeating darkness, represented here by the Roman Empire.
